Ann Coulter's View on Santorum

In Ann Coulter's blog, The Problem with Santorum, Coulter gives her reasons as to why she thinks Santorum should maybe focus on being a governor rather than President.  She feels this way based on the evidence that the topics Santorum seems to favor more are ones that the federal government can't and shouldn't be involved in.

Coulter's first premise is that Santorum does not seem to understand the Constitution and its framework in regards to limiting the federal government more so than it does the State.  His position on promoting certain programs such as "No Child Left Behind" point towards the idea of more federal government involvement.

The main problem Ann finds with Santorum is that he can't defend his own position and she proves this with several instances.  One was when Obama stated that everyone should go to college, Santorum replied with "What a snob", most likely just using it as a way to say something demeaning of the President without realizing his response was of the same ideal as the liberals.  He also fails to realize the reasoning behind Obama's statement.  Coulter argues that Democrat's dont hold the same view as liberals, that college is only for the hoity-toity, but by sending everyone to college, it "creates an all-new class of people entriely dependent on the government, which is to say: reliable Democratic voters."

Another instance she points out is that he can't even argue his "own words", quotation marks added because when asked about a specific quote from his book, he stated that his wife wrote that, even though she's not credited in the book, and another time he seems taken aback by an unfamiliar quote, again directly from his book.

Her last argument of proof was that Santorum blindly agreed with a statement without knowing who stated it originally and even when he had the chance to redeem himself he didn't.

Coulter makes some good points about Santorum and how she feels he would not be a good Presidential candidate.  To me she has strong credibility because she is Republican as is Santorum and who better to judge a Republican than one of their own.  Not only is she the author of 7 books relating to politics, but she was also named one of the top 100 Public Intellectuals by federal judge Richard Posner.  The only hesitation I have is that she sounds as if she's promoting Romney as the Republican candidate over Newt and Santorum, which is fine, but in doing so she may not be giving the other two candidates the credit they deserve by only displaying their faults and by showing bias.  Other than that, I would agree with Ann Coulter and her arguments, which would be directed towards the Republican audience who are still unsure about their choice for the Republican presidential candidate.
